Moving right along in my 2018 challenge. 6 books on this set of mini-reviews. Not quite as strong as my last post, but that line-up was a tough act to follow.
Into the Water: 3 🌟
I wanted to love this, but I didn’t. I had a hard time finishing it. I didn’t like The Girl On the Train either, for what its worth.
Girl, Wash Your Face (audiobook): 2🌟
Don’t get me started on this one. It appalls me that it is labeled “Christian”. It is very obvious that her confidence and faith is in herself and she disregards the omnipotence of God and the role he has played in her life.
Astrophysics for People in a Hurry (kindle): 3🌟
This has great reviews on Kindle and Audible, so I had to try it. Besides, it was on sale. I’m very glad I did not splurge and purchase this as an audiobook. I discovered I hate astrophysics. I also discovered that astrophysicists believe in the Big Bang, even though it cannot be proven to have actually happened, and “dark matter” even though it has not been proven, yet they are condescending of those who believe in God (of any kind) because you cannot prove His existence. 🤷🏻♀️
3 stars because while it was something I hated, I thought he did a great job explaining it in a concise yet understandable way and I learned some things.
Despite his lack of faith in God, his words made me reflect on the vastness of our universe, how minuscule I am in the grand scheme, and the creativity and power of our God.
Feeding The Dragon (audible): 3🌟
This was a free short story about a girl who grew up in the apartment above a New York City library. It was less about the books and more about the dragon. I wouldn’t purchase, but was a great “time-filler” when I was waiting on a credit.
She is an EXCELLENT story teller/narrator. 5 stars for her narration hands down.
Emma (Audible original audiobook with full cast): 4🌟
A Jane Austen that I didn’t hate. I actually rather enjoyed it. I think the full cast helped bring it to life.
Murder on the Orient Express (Audible original audiobook with full cast): 4🌟
Great “who-done-it”. I haven’t seen the movie yet. I’ll let you know which was better.
